Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Somali Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Omar

On April 25, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Foreign Ministry with visiting Somali Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Omar of the Somali Interim Government.

Yang said China has always supported the peace process of Somalia and the efforts of the Somali Interim Government to restore domestic peace, and will continue to work with the international community to play a constructive role in Somalia's peace and reconstruction. China cherishes the traditional friendship with Somalia and is ready to work with the country to push forward bilateral friendly relations.

Omar said China has offered long-term disinterested help for Somalia's political and economic development, for which the Somali side was grateful. Somalia attaches importance to the important role played by China on the international arena and hopes that China will continue to provide support for Somalia's peace and reconstruction. Omar reaffirmed his country's adherence to the one-China policy.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

Somali Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Omar arrived in China on April 23 for a working visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.
