On Aug. 27, 2013, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Fowsia Yusuf Haji Adan, who was paying an official visit to China.

Wang Yi said that, China and Somalia share a long time traditional friendship. Somalia is the first East African country that established diplomatic relationship with China, as well as one of China's African brothers who "carried" the New China into the United Nations. The Chinese people will never forget this. Somalia unfortunately sunk into war and chaos after 1991, however the friendship between the two peoples has never changed, and China has always tried the best to provide help and support to Somalia. Somalia is now making positive progress in the peace process and reconstruction. China is willing to gradually restore and increase high-level exchanges with Somalia, to carry out the economic and trade cooperation step by step, and to actively participate in Somalia's reconstruction. We believe that the traditional friendship between China and Somalia will be further consolidated and strengthened in this process.

Fowsia Yusuf Haji Adan said that Somalia is deeply grateful for the Chinese government and the people for the long-term political support and economic help. Somalia is now at a crucial time of peace and development, China is a true friend of Somalia. Somalia is eagerly expecting that China will play an even more important role in Somalia's peace process and reconstruction.
