Wang Yi: Firmly Supports the Peaceful Reconstruction of Somalia

On June 4, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Abdurahman Beileh of Somalia in Beijing, who came China to attend the sixth ministerial meeting of China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF). Both sides agreed that the CASCF has been an important platform for China and Arab states to engage in collective dialogue and cooperation in the new era. All sides should make joint efforts to contribute to the fruitful results of this ministerial meeting.

Beileh briefed Wang Yi the current situation in Somalia. He expressed that Somalia is now facing very big challenges. He thanked the Chinese side for its long-term political support and economic assistance to Somalia and hoped to carry out cooperation with China in the fields of road network, port construction and agriculture. China is the old friend and good friend of Somalia. A constantly developing Somalia will give China more support and cooperation.

Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese side is glad to see what the government of the Federal Republic of Somalia has achieved for less than two years since its founding. The Chinese side will firmly support the peaceful reconstruction of Somalia as always and provide assistance within its capability to the economic and social development of Somalia. The Chinese side will reopen Chinese Embassy in Somalia as soon as possible and will gradually expand cooperation with the Somalian side in various fields, especially those for the urgent needs of the Somalian side. The Chinese side stands ready to continue to strengthen security cooperation, provide assistance to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and send the convoy fleet to safeguard the maritime security in relevant waters. It is believed that with the joint efforts, the China-Somalia traditional friendship will surely glow with new vitality and vigor.
