Wang Yi said China is one of the first countries to recognize Somalia's independence, and Somalia is the first East African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. For a long time, China and Somalia have respected and treated each other as equals, and understood and supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests. Somalia is an important member of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) and the Belt and Road cooperation, and a trustworthy good friend and good brother. China appreciates Somalia's adherence to the one-China principle and firmly supports Somalia's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, dignity and territorial integrity. China is willing to take the opportunity of commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Somalia to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries together with Somalia and push China-Somalia relations to a new level.

Wang Yi said that since the COVID-19 outbreak, China has provided emergency anti-pandemic supplies to Somalia while the pressure on its own pandemic prevention was still high, so as to overcome the difficulties with the people of Somalia. China is willing to work with Somalia to prioritize the implementation of urgently needed material assistance and personnel training projects in Somalia's peace and reconstruction, and explore more cooperation in fields covering agriculture, fishery, and health. China is willing to continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Somalia and help Somalia's economic and social reconstruction.

Awad said that Somalia and China share a profound traditional friendship, and Somalia thanks China for its long-term precious support and assistance to Somalia. Somalia attaches great importance to the development of relations with China, and has consistently adhered to the one-China principle and resolutely opposed "Taiwan independence". Somalia is willing to work with China to continue to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, host a series of commemorative activities for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China, strengthen cooperation in the fields of infrastructure construction and culture, and promote the continuous development of Somalia-China relations.
