President Edgar Lungu of Zambia Meets with State Councilor Wang Yong

On June 6, 2017 local time, President Edgar Lungu of Zambia met in Lusaka with visiting State Councilor Wang Yong.

Wang Yong conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Edgar Lungu, and expressed that China and Zambia enjoy a long-standing friendship. As good friends, good brothers and good partners, the two countries enjoy mutual understanding and mutual support on respective paths of development and revitalization. China is willing to, together with Zambia, take the implementations of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as opportunities to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in infrastructure construction, agriculture, human resources, production capacity cooperation and other fields. The Chinese side will adhere to its policy towards Africa featuring sincerity, practical results, affinity and good faith and the correct value of friendship, justice and shared interests proposed by President Xi Jinping, and actively advance the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative, in a bid to achieve mutual benefit, win-win results, and common development.

Edgar Lungu thanked China for the selfless assistance and strong support in Zambia's struggle for national liberation and independence, as well as during its peaceful construction, and expressed that China is a true friend of Zambia. Being confident in bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as economic development, the Zambian side stands ready to work with China to constantly push forward bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

During the visit, Wang Yong also witnessed the signing of the inter-governmental cooperation documents with President Edgar Lungu, met with Vice President Inonge Wina and the founding President Kenneth David Kaunda of Zambia, attended the commencement ceremony of the expansion of Levy Muwanawasa General Hospital, and inspected parts of Chinese-funded enterprises in Zambia.
