Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Holds Talks with Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malawi

On April 7, 2009, Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun held talks in the Chinese foreign ministry with visiting permanent secretary of the foreign ministry of Malawi. The two sides formally launched the political consultation mechanism of the foreign ministries of the two countries. Both leaders exchanged in-depth views on China-Malawi relations and other issues of common concern and reached wide consensus.

Zhai said that the bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields has developed comprehensively and achieved fruitful results since the two countries established diplomatic ties one year ago. China appreciates Malawi’s valuable support on the major issues related with Taiwan, Tibet and human rights and is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Malawi in the political, trade and economic, cultural and educational sectors, actively implement the follow-up activities of the Beijing Summit of China-Africa Cooperation Forum in Malawi and promote the development of China-Malawi relations.

The Malawi side noted that the government of Malawi attaches great importance to developing relations with China and takes China as the most important strategic partner of Malawi. Although the two countries established diplomatic ties not long ago, the bilateral relations enjoy a strong momentum of development. Malawi thanks China for its selfless assistance and will resolutely follow the one-China principle and be committed to developing the mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
