Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming Visits Malawi

From October 14 to 16, 2014, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming visited Malawi, where he met with President Peter Mutharika, held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda, and gave interviews to the media. During his meeting with President Peter Mutharika, Zhang Ming expressed that Malawi, whose people are warm, friendly, industrious and kind-hearted, boasts abundant resources such as land and freshwater and has a government with good governance, which left the delegation with a deep impression. Over the past nearly 7 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship, with the constantly enhanced political mutual trust and rapid development of cooperation and development in various fields, China-Malawi relations have gone through the initial stage and marched towards a phase featuring more maturity and sustainability. Since the new government of Malawi took office, it has taken a series of measures to vigorously attract enterprises and investments. The two countries enjoy great development potentials in trade and investment. China is ready to, together with the Malawian side, intensify high-level exchanges and political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and enhance coordination and cooperation in international affairs, so as to jointly benefit the two peoples. President Peter Mutharika extended welcome to Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming for leading a delegation to visit Malawi and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to China for its selfless help to the economic and social development of Malawi since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries nearly 7 years ago. Peter Mutharika said that Malawi-China relations are of great significance both to the Malawian side and to himself. The Malawian government fully agrees to Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming's proposal on the development the bilateral relations and welcomes Chinese enterprises and individuals to boost their investments in Malawi.

During his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda, both sides discussed the possibility of further development of China-Malawi friendly cooperation in a frank manner. George Chaponda expressed that China is Malawi's true friend that always fulfills its commitment, and the Malawian side cherishes the friendship and cooperation with the Chinese side and stands ready to work with the Chinese side to push forward the cooperation in agriculture, tourism, energy and mining development, trade, investment, information technology, health care and other fields for further development.

During his visit in Malawi, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming also visited the staff in Chinese Embassy in Malawi and made an on-the-spot inspection of the premises of the mission under construction.
