On January 22, 2015, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to Malawian President Peter Mutharika over the severe flood disasters in the country. Xi Jinping, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, extended condolences to all victims of the flood disasters and expressed sincere sympathies to families of the victims and people suffering from the disasters.

Xi Jinping said that China stands ready to assist Malawi in disaster relief and believes that the Malawian people will surely overcome the disasters and rebuild their homeland under the leadership of the Malawian government.
