Yang Jiechi Meets with South Sudanese Foreign Minister

On August 20, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Zhongnanhai with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Barnaba Marial Benjamin of South Sudan.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China-South Sudan relations have witnessed a sound development and both countries have broad prospects in cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the South Sudanese side to push the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries to new highs. The Chinese side pays high attention to the development of the situation in South Sudan and has always been working to promote peace talks. He hoped that both sides involved in the conflicts could earnestly implement cease-fire agreement and steadfastly push forward peace talks so as to restore peace and stability at an early date.

Benjamin thanked the Chinese side for its great support and assistance to South Sudan and expressed that South Sudan is willing to work with the Chinese side to promote the all-round and in-depth development of bilateral relations, respond actively to the relevant initiatives of the international community including China and resolve the disputes through political negotiations.
