Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo Holds Political Consultation with Nicholas Emiliou, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus

On April 24, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo and Nicholas Emiliou, visiting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, held political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Wu made positive comments on bilateral ties, saying that China is ready to work with Cyprus to build political trust, enhance economic and trade cooperation, expand humanities exchanges and strengthen political consultation and cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, so as to push forward China-Cyprus relations. Emiliou said the Cypriot government attaches importance to developing ties with China and their sound political relations have laid a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation in all areas. Cyprus will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and is reedy to continue working closely with China in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education and tourism.

Both sides also exchanged views on China-EU relations, the global financial crisis, as well as other international and regional issues of common concern.
