Wang Yi Meets with President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus

On Sept. 26, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus at the UN headquarters, New York.

Anastasiades said that Cyprus-China relations have long been friendly, with smooth development of cooperation in all fields. Cyprus looks forward to reaching a series of new cooperation agreements with China as soon as possible. China is an important strategic partner of Europe and Cyprus supports the development of EU-China relations. Cyprus highly appreciates China's constructive role in the UN.

Wang Yi conveyed the cordial greetings from President Xi Jinping to Anastasiades and expressed that China highly values relations with Cyprus. The two countries are reliable friends and partners for each other. In recent years, the two countries have enjoyed firm political mutual trust, and bilateral trade has expanded despite the global economic turmoil. There are huge potentials for expanding trade and investment. The Chinese side spoke highly of Cyprus for actively pushing forward China-EU relations within the EU and for the support on issues concerning China's core concerns.
