On September 10, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Dalian with Latvian President Valdis Zatlers on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of New Champions 2009, also known as the Summer Davos.

Wen said that recent years have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges, with closer relations between both countries. China is ready to work with Latvia to encourage contacts of enterprises and mutual investment, and enhance cooperation in the field of transportation to achieve win-win results, said Wen.

Zatlers said the two countries share common views on many major international issues. The relationship between China and Latvia has seen sound development. Latvia attaches great importance to China's development prospect and hopes for more fruitful exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the areas of economy, trade and humanities. Latvia is ready to make positive contributions to the development of EU-China relations, said Zatlers.
