On February 1, 2011, Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Foreign Minister Girts Valdis Kristovskis sent messages respectively to Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, extending best wishes to the Chinese people for the Spring Festival. The Chinese side expressed hope that Latvia-China friendly cooperation of mutual benefit, especially the close cooperation in the areas of economy, culture and education, will be further enhanced and the friendship between both peoples will grow with each passing day in the New Year.
