Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma of Latvia

On the afternoon of November 26, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma of Latvia, who was in China for the attendance of the 4th Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries.

Li Keqiang noted that Latvia is an important cooperative partner of China in Baltic Sea region. Both sides enjoy increasingly boosted political mutual trust, more balanced bilateral trade, and continuously advanced cooperation in all sectors. China attaches great importance to its relations with Latvia, and is ready to join efforts with Latvia to push China-Latvia relations for rapid and healthy development on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

Li Keqiang expressed that China is ready to, together with Latvia, discuss cooperation on the construction of ports and a logistics park under the framework of a three-sea harbor district cooperation initiative, give full play to the advantages of Chinese enterprises in railway construction including equipment manufacturing, and participate in the construction of the joint railway projects in the Baltic Sea region in a proper manner. Latvia will host the fifth Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries next year, and China will work with Latvia to cement the 16+1 platform, so as to bring benefits to the people in the 17 nations.

Li Keqiang emphasized that China always attaches importance to the EU from a strategic perspective, firmly supports the European integration process, and hopes to see a prosperous and stable Europe. Latvia is an important cooperation partner of China within the EU. China hopes Latvia could continue to play a positive role for an in-depth development of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

Laimdota Straujuma expressed that the 4th Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries scored fruitful result, and Latvia will do its utmost to ensure the success of the next summit. Leaders present at the summit expressed great admiration for China's infrastructure, especially in the construction of the high-speed railway. Latvia is glad to see China participate in the projects including the railway in the Baltic Sea area, the port of Riga, Latvia' airlines and industrial parks, agrees to the initiative on trilateral cooperation put forward by China and stands ready to enhance cooperation with China.
