Li Keqiang Holds Formal Talks with Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis of Latvia

On the morning of November 4, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis of Latvia at the Prime Minister's Office in Riga.

Li Keqiang said that Latvia is a good friend of China in the Baltic Sea region and an important cooperation partner of China in Central and Eastern Europe and the EU. Over the past 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, both sides have constantly consolidated political mutual trust, continuously deepened pragmatic cooperation in various fields and gradually intensified people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Standing at a new historical starting point, China is ready to work with Latvia to enhance exchanges at different levels in the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, so as to elevate China-Latvia relations to a new high.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China is willing to comprehensively deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields with Latvia and regards Latvia as an important transit stop for China-EU trade. With cost-effective equipments and rich experience in railway and port construction, China is willing to participate in the Rail Baltica, the three-sea harbor district and other infrastructure construction as well as production capacity cooperation, and promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges in tourism and other areas to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Li Keqiang lauded Latvia for actively supporting and participating in cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC). He said that China is willing to enhance communication and coordination with Latvia to make this year's China-CEEC Summit a success, and contribute to the common development and prosperity of China, Central and Eastern Europe and Europe.

Maris Kucinskis expressed that the two countries have seen smooth cooperation in various fields in the past 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship and bilateral relations are at the best level in history. Latvia is willing to be a reliable cooperation partner of China, support and actively participate in China's "Belt and Road" initiative, make solid progress in pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure, transportation, logistics, clean oil refinery, tourism, education, agricultural products and other fields to achieve more results and realize mutual benefit and win-win results. Latvia is willing to create a stable environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in the country and become a portal for Chinese businesses to enter the Central and Eastern European market. Latvia is glad to host the CEEC-China Summit this time and regards the mechanism as an important platform for CEEC-China cooperation and a beneficial supplement to bilateral relations.

Before the talks, Maris Kucinskis held a grand welcoming ceremony for Li Keqiang. Military band played the national anthems of both countries. Li Keqiang, accompanied by Maris Kucinskis, reviewed the guard of honor.

After the talks, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents in economy, trade, transportation, culture and others areas.
