On the afternoon of November 5, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis of Latvia and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary jointly met the press at the National Library of Latvia in Riga, introducing outcomes from the 5th Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC).

Li Keqiang said that this China-CEEC Summit was held against the current situation of sluggish world economic recovery, slowdown in trade growth, as well as new and complicated changes in global and regional hotspot issues. This summit has sent out a positive signal of safeguarding world peace and stability, promoting trade liberalization and investment facilitation, and advancing the globalization process to the outside. China-CEEC cooperation is a cross-regional cooperation between China, the biggest developing country, and emerging economies in Central and Eastern Europe, which is conducive to maintaining the world trade system and promoting balanced development and inclusive growth of the global economy.

Li Keqiang stressed that China's development calls for a peaceful and stable international environment. China-CEEC cooperation is beneficial not only to peace and stability in Central and Eastern Europe, but also to the balanced development of the whole Europe. China has always firmly supported the European integration process and is pleased to see a prosperous and stable Europe. The "16+1 cooperation" is a component of and beneficial supplement to China-EU relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that currently China and the CEEC are all amid the process of industrialization or re-industrialization. Production capacity cooperation acts as an important carrier for the integration between China's "Belt and Road" initiative and the development strategies of the CEEC. After decades of industrialization, China has exhibited relatively strong market competitiveness in such fields as infrastructure, equipment and industrial manufacturing and a relatively high price-performance ratio in the products. With China's equipment involved in the infrastructure construction of the CEEC, the demands of the CEEC in development and re-industrialization can be better satisfied, thus promoting regional connectivity. Through cooperation in complementary advantages, both sides can better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, benefit the people of the 17 countries and make new contributions to world peace and development.

Māris Kučinskis expressed that this summit has yielded positive results. The CEEC are looking forward to, together with China, strengthening cooperation, integrating development strategies, implementing cooperation consensus, strengthening cooperation in such fields as transportation, finance, science and technology and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, while promoting the alignment between the "Belt and Road" construction and the Investment Plan for Europe and others, so that EU-China relationship can achieve greater development.

Viktor Orbán noted that the "16+1 cooperation" is in line with the interests of the CEEC and also opens a new window for the development of EU-China relations. Hungary is glad to host the next CEEC-China Summit and will ensure the success of the summit.
