On August 30, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with Maris Selga, the Latvian Ambassador to China who is to leave his post.

Speaking positively of Maris Selga's contributions to promoting the development of China-Latvia relations and the current situation of bilateral relations during his tenure, Qin Gang hoped Maris Selga will continue to care for and support the cause of China-Latvia friendship. Maris Selga thanked the Chinese side for providing support and convenience during his term of office, and expressed that the Latvian side attaches great importance to its relations with China, and will continue to actively participate in the building of the Belt and Road Initiative and cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries, in a bid to push bilateral relations for further development.
