From January 2 to 4, 2005, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Lu Guozeng visited Lebanon and met with President Lahoud, National Assembly President Berri, Prime Minister Karame, Foreign Minister Hammoud and Secretary General for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Issa respectively. Lu mainly introduced the visit of State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan to Palestine and Israel not long ago, talked about China's four proposals on the current Middle East issue and exchanged opinions on China- Lebanon relations with the Lebanese side. The Lebanese leaders highly complimented China's justice stance on the Middle East and other regional issues and positively commented the content of China's "four proposals", expressing wishes to further develop bilateral political, economic and cultural relations and reiterating that Lebanon will, as always, resolutely adhere to the one-China policy and support China's cause of national reunification. Lu held briefings with local media following each meeting, answered questions and distributed news releases on the "four proposals".

The visit of Assistant Foreign Minister Lu draws wide attention from local media. The National News Agency (NAA) of Lebanon, various TV stations and major newspapers all reported the visit in details on the same day or the next day.
