Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan Holds Consultation with Under-Secretary of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry

On November 20, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan and Jusys, under-secretary of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, held the political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries.

Kong made positive comments on bilateral ties, saying that recent years have witnessed rapid development of the ties, deepening political trust, fruitful economic and trade cooperation, dynamic exchanges on education, culture and sports and between localities and close cooperation in international and regional affairs. Kong said China attaches importance to developing ties with Lithuania and highly appreciates the Lithuanian government's adherence to the one-China policy. China values Lithuania's role in the EU and is ready to join hands with the country to push forward China-Lithuania and China-Euro ties, he added.

Jusys fully agreed with Kong's comments on bilateral ties. He pointed out that Lithuania deems China its most important political, economic and trade cooperative partner in Asia, reaffirming his country's adherence to the one-China policy. Lithuania is ready to continue strengthening cooperation with China in bilateral and multilateral areas and push the ties to a new level, said the under-secretary. Lithuania would also like to play a positive role in the EU and contribute to the development of Euro-China comprehensive strategic partnership, he added.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
