President Vladimir Putin of Russia and Others Extend Condolences to the Chinese Side over the Earthquake in Ludian, Yunnan Province

On August 4, 2014, some countries extended condolences to the Chinese side over the earthquake in Ludian, Yunnan Province.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia sent a message to President Xi Jinping, extending condolences over heavy casualties caused by the earthquake in Ludian, Yunnan Province, asking Xi Jinping to convey deep sympathy and support to the bereaved families and wishing soonest recovery to all injured. The Russian side is ready to provide assistance to China's earthquake relief work.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan sent a letter to President Xi Jinping, expressing condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims, wishing that the Chinese people will turn grief into strength and believing that the losses caused by the natural disaster could be recovered soon.

President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea (ROK) sent a letter to President Xi Jinping, expressing deep grief over the heavy casualties and property losses caused by the earthquake in Yunnan Province and wishing China will win the success of its earthquake relief work soon.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia also sent a message of condolences to Premier Li Keqiang over the earthquake.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations (UN) issued a statement, expressing condolences to the Chinese government and the bereaved families. The UN stands ready to provide assistance in carrying out humanitarian aid and mobilizing the support of the international community.

In addition, the US, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Lithuania, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the League of Arab States (LAS) and other countries and regional organizations also extended condolences to the Chinese side in different ways.
