On February 4, 2010, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Oľga Algayerová held political consultations between the two foreign ministries in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. Zhang also met with Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, exchanging views on China-Slovakia relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern in a candid, in-depth manner.

Both sides made positive comments on bilateral ties, agreeing that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 60 year ago, bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economy and culture has continuously achieved fruitful results. In particular since Chinese President Hu Jintao’s successful visit to Slovakia last year, bilateral ties have entered a new stage of development. Both sides should seize the opportunity, comprehensively deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas and push for better and faster development of bilateral ties.

The Slovak side reaffirmed that the Slovak government will continue to adhere to the one-China policy and is ready to play a positive constructive role within the EU in pushing forward EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Zhang appreciated the Slovak government’s adherence to the one-China policy on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet, expressing hope that the Slovak side will continue to show understanding and support to China. China is ready to push bilateral ties to a higher level based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit and non-interference into each other's internal affairs.
