On July 6, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Iranian Nuclear Issue in Vienna. The meeting was chaired by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Frederica Mogherini, and attended by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of Russia, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian of France, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany, Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Alistair Burt of the United Kingdom and others.

Wang Yi expressed that signed by all the participating countries and approved by the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian Nuclear Issue is an important outcome of multilateralism, as well as an example of peaceful settlement of disputes. The practice over the past three years has proved that the JCPOA has not only defused the Iranian nuclear crisis, but also played a positive role in safeguarding the international non-proliferation regime. To safeguard and implement the JCPOA on the Iranian Nuclear Issue is indeed to safeguard international law, the authority of the UN, the international non-proliferation regime and the reputation of signatories of the JCPOA.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side is firmly committed to safeguarding and implementing the JCPOA, and has always fulfilled the stipulations and obligations of the JCPOA in a strict and honest manner. Under current circumstances, various parties should maintain unity and cooperation, continue well implementing the JCPOA, oppose any illegal unilateral sanctions, and firmly stand on the right side of history.

Attending representatives of various countries expressed that the JCPOA on the Iranian Nuclear Issue is an international agreement approved by the UN Security Council, which should be observed and implemented. The withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA and its implementation of unilateral sanctions violated its own commitments and international law, as well as went against the stipulations of the JCPOA itself. Under the new circumstances, various parties should uphold multilateralism, enhance communication and coordination, jointly safeguard the JCPOA, and maintain the legitimate rights and interests of various parties under the JCPOA.
