President Alexander Van der Bellen of Austria Meets with Wang Yi

On July 6, 2018 local time, President Alexander Van der Bellen of Austria met at the presidential palace in Vienna with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Alexander Van der Bellen asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Alexander Van der Bellen expressed that he and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz paid a successful visit to China in April this year and established Austria-China friendly strategic partnership, injecting new impetus into and opening up new prospects for bilateral relations. Austria attaches importance to the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and is willing to deepen practical cooperation with China under this framework. Austria will take an active participation in the activity of "national exhibition" at the first China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai in November, and wishes to take it as an opportunity to promote bilateral cooperation for constant and new outcomes.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Alexander Van der Bellen. Wang Yi noted that Alexander Van der Bellen paid a successful super state visit to China in the company of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz not long ago, which has not only elevated China-Austria relations to new stages, but also endowed bilateral relations with a new positioning. The trust and friendship established between Alexander Van der Bellen and President Xi Jinping will surely lead the in-depth development of friendship among all circles of the society of the two countries. China stands ready to, together with Austria, implement the consensus of the two heads of state, deepen cooperation in various fields, enhance strategic communication and coordination, and jointly deal with global challenges, in a bid to push bilateral friendly strategic partnership for constant and forward-looking development.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue.

On the same day, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz of Austria met at the Chancellor's office in Vienna with Wang Yi. On July 5, Wang Yi also held talks with Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl of Austria.
