On June 1, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Brussels with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders of Belgium.

Wang Yi first extended his condolences to Didier Reynders over the violent attack that took place in the city of Liege in Belgium a few days ago. Wang Yi expressed that since President Xi Jinping's visit to Belgium in 2014 and the establishment of China-Belgium all-round friendly cooperative partnership, the relations between the two countries have embarked on the fast track of development, with high-level exchanges being prominently strengthened, practical cooperation being deepened, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges becoming increasingly closer. It is hoped that both sides will continue to respect each other's core interests and major concerns, expand the two-way trade and investment, and integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with Belgium's development strategies, so as to constantly open up new areas of cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication with Belgium on international affairs to jointly safeguard the international order and the multilateral system with the United Nations at the core and jointly promote the building of an open world economy.

Didier Reynders thanked Wang Yi's condolences and expressed that he paid multiple visits to China and witnessed the great achievements China has made in its reform and opening up. Belgium attaches high importance to the increasingly rising international influence of China, appreciates the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by China, and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest and run business in Belgium, so as to promote bilateral cooperation for more results. Under the current situation, Belgium hopes to strengthen communication and coordination with China within the multilateral mechanism and jointly safeguard the free trading system with the World Trade Organization as the cornerstone.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
