From March 13 to 14, 2019, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan attended the Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region hosted by the European Union and the United Nations (UN). He expounded on the Chinese side's principled stance on the Syrian issue at the conference and introduced relevant situations including the Chinese side's work to promote the political settlement of the Syrian issue.

During the conference, Xie Xiaoyan also met respectively with Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard, Deputy Foreign Minister Vershinin Sergey Vasilievich of Russia, Secretary of State's Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Franklin Jeffrey of the United States, Personal Representative of the French Presidency for Syria François Sénémaud and Special Envoy for Syria of the UN Secretary-General Geir O. Pedersen. They exchanged views on the Syrian issue.
