On March 31, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Washington, D.C. with Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen of Denmark.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the progress of China-Denmark relations gathers the wisdom and efforts of our respective leaderships of several generations. In recent years, China and Denmark have been constantly enhancing political mutual trust and comprehensively intensifying practical cooperation. Under the new circumstances, China-Denmark relations enjoy continuous and in-depth development, which is in line with the common interests of the two countries and two peoples.

Xi Jinping emphasized that at present, China-Denmark relations stand at a new historical starting point. We should strengthen political guidance and top-level design, maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, align development strategies, focus on deepening bilateral cooperation in connectivity, green development, low-carbon and circular economy, medicine, food and others, and build more flagship cooperation projects. Both sides should promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and mutual learning, intensify personnel exchanges and boost youth exchanges. The countries should enhance coordination in the UN and other international organizations. It is hoped that the two countries could work together to make 2016 "a year of progress" of the China-Denmark comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to advance China-Denmark relations to a new stage and bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China always views and develops China-EU relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and expects Denmark to continue to play an active role in promoting the development of the four major partnerships between China and the EU. China stands ready to continuously strengthen cooperation with Northern European countries in enterprise innovation, green development, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other fields, so as to form a favorable circumstance featured with mutual promotion of China's relations with Northern Europe and its relationship with Europe.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen expressed that Denmark is committed to promoting Denmark-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Denmark-China relations enjoy great potential, and face great opportunities for development. Denmark stands ready to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China in various areas at national and sub-national levels, enhance people-to-people exchanges in culture, tourism and other fields, strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs, and support to develop closer Europe-China relations as well as more intimate relationship between Northern Europe and China. Denmark supports the recognition of China's full market economy status.
