On August 18, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that under the joint leadership of the two heads of state, fruitful results have been achieved in the cooperation in various fields between China and Denmark. The sound and steady development of China-Denmark relations injected certainty into bilateral cooperation and provided stability to the international situation. The two sides have always insisted on mutual respect and equal treatment, adhered to mutual benefit, win-win results and pragmatic cooperation, stuck to increasing exchanges and strengthening communication, and persisted in jointly responding to global challenges and safeguarding world peace and development. China has embarked on a new journey of economic and social development, is concentrating on advancing Chinese modernization, and will further expand opening up to the world, accelerate the establishment of a new growth pattern, and promote high-quality development. China's new development will provide new impetus for world development and new opportunities for Denmark and other countries.

Wang Yi said that China always regards Europe as a comprehensive strategic partner and supports Europe in upholding its strategic independence and playing a greater role in the international community. Both sides should correctly contextualize various problems arising from exchanges and cooperation. Non-development is the biggest insecurity, and non-cooperation is the biggest risk. Risks should be mitigated through cooperation and eliminated through convergence of interests.

Rasmussen said that Denmark-China relations enjoy a long history and the two sides are close partners. The Danish side is committed to strengthening cooperation with China. Reaching the agreement on a "Green China-Denmark Joint Work Programme" marks a new milestone in Denmark-China relations and will build a new platform for bilateral cooperation. Danish companies attach great importance to and are optimistic about the Chinese market, and look forward to investing and doing business in China. They are glad to see that China has introduced 24 new measures to attract foreign investment and expect that these measures will promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The Danish side supports multilateralism and economic globalization, and supports Europe-China cooperation, which is conducive to each other's development.

Wang Yi stated China's position on the Taiwan question, emphasizing that the most effective and direct way to safeguard stability across the Taiwan Strait is to resolutely oppose and stop "Taiwan independence". Rasmussen reiterated that Denmark adheres to the one-China policy.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on the Ukraine issue. Wang Yi emphasized that China's position on the issue of the Ukraine crisis is consistent and China remains committed to promoting talks for peace. Efforts of all parties are expected to be put into promoting the establishment of a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture and achieving long-term peace and stability in Europe.

After the talks, the two Foreign Ministers jointly attended the launching ceremony of the "Green Joint Work Programme for the Period of 2023-2026 between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark".
