On June 5, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had a phone call with French President's Diplomatic Advisor Emmanuel Bonne at the latter's request.

Wang Yi said that President Emmanuel Macron's visit to China in April was a complete success, and the two heads of state reached strategic common understandings on a number of issues. He noted that the two sides need to jointly accelerate and push forward the implementation of the important agenda in the next stage, to demonstrate the high-level nature of the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership. President Macron's recent important remarks at international multilateral platforms demonstrate France's independent diplomatic tradition. And European countries are more actively engaged in dialogues and contacts with China, which China  appreciates. China believes that France will continue to follow its rational and positive China policy, and play a constructive role in developing sound and stable EU-China relations. China and the EU are two major pillars of the multi-polar world, and their common interests far outweigh their differences. The two countries should see each other more as cooperation partners and less as adversaries, and work together to contribute more to world stability.

Bonne said that President Macron is satisfied with the result of his visit to China, especially his in-depth communication with President Xi Jinping. France is ready to strengthen cooperation with China, and make contributions to the development of France-China and EU-China relations as well as international peace and stability. France believes that Europe should remain united, uphold its independence and autonomy, and establish a partnership with China based on mutual respect and common prosperity.

The two sides exchanged views on global challenges. France looks forward to seeing closer cooperation between the Global North and the Global South to achieve more balanced and sustainable development. Wang Yi said that as an important member of the Global South, China has always been advocating that developed countries take concrete actions to support the development of the Global South. And as the largest developing country, China is committed to providing support to developing countries and safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests through South-South cooperation.

The two sides also coordinated their respective positions on the Ukraine issue, and agreed to continuously build up and create enabling conditions for starting the process for its political settlement.
