On the afternoon of June 22, 2023 local time, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

Li Qiang first conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings to President Macron. Li Qiang recalled that during President Macron’s successful visit to China not long ago, President Xi Jinping and he had in-depth exchanges and reached a series of strategic common understandings, drawing a blueprint for the development of China-France relations. Li Qiang said his visit to France aims to follow through on the important common understanding reached between the two heads of state, and to have in-depth discussions with the French side on strengthening China-France cooperation.

Li Qiang pointed out that China, France and Europe, each having its own strengths, should further strengthen cooperation. While deepening cooperation in the traditional areas of nuclear energy, aviation and aerospace, we also need to tap the potential of cooperation in emerging areas like environmental protection, digital economy, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win for the three sides. China encourages its enterprises to invest in France, and welcomes French companies to share in China's development opportunities..

Li Qiang said that China and France, both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and responsible major countries, share the same strategic outlook and holistic view. China stands ready to work with France to further strengthen communication and coordination on international affairs, support each other's good initiatives, jointly meet global challenges, and promote world peace and stability.

Macron delightedly recalled his successful visit to China in April this year and asked Li Qiang to convey his sincere greetings and heartfelt thanks to President Xi Jinping. Macron welcomes Li Qiang’s visit to France and attendance at the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, stressing that France attaches great importance to its relationship with China and stays committed to the one-China policy. France is ready to work with China to strengthen coordination through the mechanisms of the France-China Strategic Dialogue, the High-level Economic and Financial Dialogue, and the High-level Dialogue on People-to-people Exchanges, and deepen cooperation in such fields as aviation, aerospace, nuclear energy, agriculture and food. Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest in France and expand cooperation in emerging fields such as green development, environmental protection, and new energy. In a world fraught with challenges, France and China should uphold effective multilateralism, promote solidarity in the international community, improve global governance, and work together to address global problems.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and other international issues of mutual interest and concern.

Wu Zhenglong, among others, was present at the meeting.
