Wang Yi Has a Phone Call with French President's Diplomatic Advisor Emmanuel Bonne

On September 22, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had a phone call with French President's Diplomatic Advisor Emmanuel Bonne at the latter's request.

Wang Yi said that thanks to the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-France relations have enjoyed high-level development. Exchanges at all levels between the two countries have been resumed across the board, and practical cooperation in various fields has made substantive progress. China is ready to work with France to jointly plan well events for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism next year, so as to inject new strong impetus into bilateral relations. The two sides should make full use of the role of the mechanism of strategic dialogue and high-level dialogue on people-to-people exchange, to make political mutual trust between the two countries more solid, practical cooperation closer, people-to-people and cultural exchanges more vibrant, and the public support more robust.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the European Union (EU), and China is ready to work with the EU to jointly plan well the next-stage interaction between the two sides, so as to open up new prospects for China-EU cooperation. Wang Yi expressed his hope that the EU will adhere to openness and inclusiveness, keep to the market principle, support free trade, and refrain from falling into the trap of protectionism. China remains committed to resolving each other's concerns through dialogue and consultation with the EU, and hopes that France will play a constructive role in properly handling a relevant anti-subsidy investigation.

Emmanuel Bonne said that this year, President Emmanuel Macron paid a successful visit to China, and France-China cooperation in such fields as politics, economy and trade, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges has been successfully advanced. President Emmanuel Macron cherishes the mutual trust and friendship he has fostered with President Xi Jinping, and stands ready to maintain and strengthen high-level exchanges between the two sides. France and China have carried out sound communication and coordination on multilateral affairs. France thanks Premier Li Qiang for attending the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, and together, France and China can make important contribution to pooling global synergy. France looks forward to holding a new round of strategic dialogue with China to strengthen communication and coordination. France opposes bloc confrontation, always advocates that Europe should stay independent, and will adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results between the EU and China. Relevant anti-subsidy investigation launched by the European Commission is not targeted at China.

The two sides agreed to maintain strategic communication, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and further facilitate personnel exchanges.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on the Ukraine crisis. Wang Yi said that China keeps to an objective and just position, and remains committed to promoting talks for peace. Wang Yi expressed his hope that France and other major European countries will play an important role in creating the necessary conditions for seeking a political settlement.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on issues related to the Middle East, and the Korean Peninsula, among others.
