Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece

On April 26, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Li Keqiang said that China and Greece, both as ancient civilizations, have conducted fruitful cooperation in the spirit of mutual respect, equal treatment and mutual learning. Greece, with its geographical location advantage, can play a pivotal role in connecting Asia and Europe. The Chinese side supports the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the Greek side's development strategy and the strengthening of cooperation in finance, science and technology, digital economy and other fields, and is ready to expand import of high-quality agricultural products from Greece. China congratulates Greece on becoming a full member of China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) cooperation which is a trans-regional platform for practical cooperation, follows international and market principles and rule of law, and is conducive to promoting the development of China-Europe relations. The Chinese side always firmly supports the European integration process and is willing to see a united, prosperous and stable Europe, which is conducive to both China and Europe as well as to the rest of the world. It is hoped that Greece will continue to make new contributions to the development of China-Europe relations.

Alexis Tsipras said that Greece-China relations have made substantial progress in recent years and the two sides have reached a series of strategic consensus. China is not only a growth engine for the global economy, but also a huge market. Greece is willing to develop more balanced trade relations with the Chinese side and welcomes Chinese enterprises to expand investment in Greece. Greece is delighted to become a full member of CEEC-China cooperation, which will not only boost its own growth and prosperity, but also contribute to the development of the Central and Eastern European region. Greece, as an intersection between East and West, hopes to become a hub and center of Eurasian connectivity, economy, trade and tourism.

After the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras jointly witnessed the signing of relevant bilateral cooperation documents.
