Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias of Greece

On September 25, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias of Greece on the sidelines the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi expressed, China and Greece enjoy a long-standing traditional friendship. Greece has been actively developing relations with China since the establishment of its new government. The Chinese side is willing to maintain close exchanges with the Greek side, give full play to the political leading role of summit diplomacy, continue to consolidate traditional friendship, build political mutual trust, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. This will further promote all-round cooperation between the two ancient civilizations and make new contributions to regional and world peace and development. It is hoped that both sides will achieve common development and prosperity through the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries. Greece is welcome to attend the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) as one of the guests of honor. Under current international situation, China and Europe should further enhance coordination and jointly safeguard multilateralism and the international system with the UN at its core. It is hoped and believed that the Greek side will continue to play an active role in the sound development of China-Europe relations.

Nikos Dendias expressed, both Greece and China are ancient civilizations and should play an important role in making better use of cultural soft power to figure out solutions to present problems. Greece is committed to further strengthening Greece-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The Belt and Road Initiative is of great significance for promoting economic development for countries involved as well as Europe-China cooperation. Greece will continue to actively participate in cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and promote practical cooperation within the framework of "17+1 cooperation". The Greek side will be delighted to participate in the second CIIE. The Greek side will never forget China's valuable help to Greece during the financial crisis and will continue to offer understanding and support on issues related to the Chinese side's major concern. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and carry out cooperation in Greece. The Greek side stands ready to play a constructive role in the development of Europe-China relations.
