On April 29, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang spoke on the phone with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Fragogiannis of Greece.

Qin Gang said that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Greece have united and helped each other to fight against the pandemic together, renewing the friendship between the two peoples. China will not forget the sympathies and support given by the Greek government and people to China’s fight against the pandemic. The Chinese government and all walks of life in China have also provided assistance to Greece to the best of its ability. I sincerely wish the Greek people an early victory over the pandemic.

Qin Gang emphasized, China and Greece have a high degree of consensus that ancient civilizations can provide inspiration and reference for the response to the challenges of today’s world. Both sides should promote international fairness and justice with the wisdom of ancient civilizations, promote the unity and cooperation of the international community to fight against the pandemic, and work together to build a global community of health.

Konstantinos Fragogiannis said, the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece has seen some encouraging progress recently, and the Greek side sincerely appreciates the Chinese friends for the precious support and assistance in difficult times. The pandemic has posed challenges to the world and requires international cooperation and unity to response to it. As countries with ancient civilizations, Greece and China should draw wisdom from ancient civilizations and jointly make contributions to international cooperation in the fight against the pandemic.
