On October 19, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister's Senior Representative and Minister of Development of Greece Konstantinos Theodorou Skrekas who is in China to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Wang Yi said that over the past ten years, the Belt and Road Initiative has progressed with the times, developed and prospered, made historic achievements, and become the most popular international public goods and the largest-scale international cooperation platform in the world today. Greece is an important partner of Belt and Road cooperation, and practical cooperation between China and Greece has yielded fruitful outcomes. The success template of Piraeus Port has provided a convincing example of the Belt and Road Initiative featuring mutual benefits and win-win results. China will continue to uphold the Silk Road spirit to work with Greece to strengthen such cooperation projects as Piraeus Port to boost Europe's connectivity.

Wang Yi said that China and the European Union (EU) are partners rather than rivals, and the two sides do not have geopolitical disputes, nor do they have major conflicts of interests. China is ready to work with the EU to advocate and act upon true multilateralism, support free trade, safeguard fair competition, reject protectionism, and promote the building of a fairer and more equitable global governance system. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Greece will continue to play a constructive role in the sound development of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

Konstantinos Theodorou Skrekas said that Greece and China are both ancient civilizations that have made important contribution to the progress of humanity. The two countries have high-level mutual trust, and the foundation of mutually beneficial cooperation is solid. Greece is China's reliable friend, and will continue to be committed to the one-China policy, carry forward the tradition of Greece-China friendship, and deepen cooperation in various fields. Greece is one of the first European countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative, and Belt and Road cooperation has boosted Greece's efforts to build the largest port in the Mediterranean Sea. Greece will continue to actively participate in and promote the sound and steady development of EU-China relations.
