On June 26, 2006, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui held consultation with visiting Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Iceland Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson. Zhang made positive comments on China-Iceland relations, hoping that both sides will make joint efforts to push for all-round and in-depth development of bilateral ties. Gunnarsson indicated that the Icelandic government attaches importance to developing relations with China, adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to further cooperation with China in all areas. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.

At the invitation of Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui, Permanent Secretary of State Gunnarsson arrived in Beijing on June 25 for a one-week visit to China.
