On July 12, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Foreign Ministry with his visiting Icelandic counterpart Ossur Skarphedinsson.

Yang said China and Iceland enjoy solid foundation of political trust though they have different size and national conditions. Both sides have conducted fruitful cooperation in the areas such as finance, trade, terrestrial heat, fishery and culture, and kept sound contacts and coordination in global and regional affairs. Calling the two countries good friends and partners with sincere cooperation, Yang said China is ready to take the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year to further enhance understanding and cooperation with Iceland and push bilateral ties to a new level.

Hailing the smooth growth of bilateral ties, Skarphedinsson said his country was deeply moved by China's support when Iceland's economy was severely hit by the global financial crisis these years. Skarphedinsson reiterated his country's adherence to the one-China policy, adding Iceland is committed to strengthening bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various areas.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

Skarphedinsson arrived in China on July 10 for an official visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Yang.
