On September 14, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages with Liechtenstein's Crown Prince Alois to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Hu, in his message, said that China-Liechtenstein relationship has been developing smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic ties 60 years ago. The two sides have had exchanges, communication and cooperation in economy and trade, culture and tourism as well as in international organizations, which has strengthened the understanding and friendship between the two peoples, he said. Although the two countries are very different in terms of national conditions and size, such differences did not become an obstacle to the development of bilateral ties, the Chinese president stressed. Hu said China maintains that all countries -- big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak -- should respect each other, treat each other as equals, and seek mutually beneficial cooperation and common development. China is ready to deepen the friendly cooperation with Liechtenstein in the future in this spirit and work together with it to contribute to promoting diversity of human civilizations and world peace and development, said the Chinese president.

In his message, Crown Prince Alois spoke highly of China's policy of treating countries, no matter small or big, as equals. He said his country would take the opportunity of the 60th anniversary to further promote its friendly relationship with China.
