On April 10, 2016 local time, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Yu Zhengsheng made a stopover in Malta on the way of his official goodwill visits to three African countries, and met in Valletta with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Angelo Farrugia of Malta.

Yu Zhengsheng said China and Malta have maintained a long-term friendship with political mutual trust, close economic cooperation and increasingly deepening people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China appreciates the support and assistance from Malta in China's evacuation of Chinese nationals overseas. China is ready to work together with Malta to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, carry forward China-Malta traditional friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as science and technology, fishery and tourism, and build new highlights for bilateral cooperation. The CPPCC is willing to maintain close exchanges with the Maltese parliament and all social sectors of Malta, enhance communication on experience of governance and administration of state affairs, and create a sound environment for expanding practical cooperation between the two countries, so as to jointly boost the in-depth development of bilateral relations.

Angelo Farrugia said that Malta and China have maintained a sound relationship with frequent high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation in various fields. Malta appreciates China's selfless assistance to its development. The Maltese parliament attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and is willing to continue to strengthen exchanges with China at all levels, and promote bilateral practical cooperation, so as to constantly push forward the development of bilateral relations.
