Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Carmelo Abela of Malta

On November 20, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Carmelo Abela of Malta on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Malta enjoy a traditional friendship. China attaches importance to developing China-Malta relations, and is willing to enhance high-level exchanges and promote practical cooperation with Malta. China is pleased to see more Chinese citizens to travel to Malta. China is ready to actively discuss bilateral cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative, and hopes Malta to continuously play a constructive role in advancing China-Europe relations and cooperation between China and the Mediterranean countries.

Carmelo Abela agreed with Wang Yi's evaluation on Malta-China relations and vision for the development of bilateral relations in next period. He expressed that Malta stands ready to actively boost exchanges between the two peoples, and expand cooperation in trade, tourism, energy, connectivity and other areas, in a bid to promote Malta-China long-term friendly relations to continuously achieve new and greater development.
