On March 31, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang met at request with Dutch Ambassador to China Wim Geerts.

Wim Geerts congratulated the Chinese side on its important phased achievements in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and said, currently, the pandemic is spreading globally and the Netherlands is also facing a severe situation. The Dutch side sincerely thanks the Chinese side for its assistance. Virus knows no borders, and the Dutch side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, continuously support each other to defeat the pandemic together.

Qin Gang thanked the Dutch side for supporting China's work in fighting the pandemic and emphasized, in the face of the global challenges brought about by the COVID-19, only unity and coordination can help us overcome the difficulties. At present, China’s assistance to the European countries within our capability is to repay the European side’s support for China's previous help. It is also a humanitarian action taken at the request of the European side. It is not the "politics of generosity" as some have said. The Chinese side is willing to continuously work with the European countries, including the Netherlands, to help and support each other, so as to win the fight against the pandemic.

Both sides also mainly exchanged views on the development of China-Netherlands relations this year, and agreed to maintain close communication and coordination, jointly implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and well plan the high-level visits after the pandemic, so as to elevate China-Netherlands and China-Europe relations to new highs.
