On May 19, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended an event commemorating the 49th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Netherlands & publishing the new edition of the Modern Dutch-Chinese Dictionary at the Netherlands Embassy in China upon invitation.

Qin Gang said in his speech, since the establishment of diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level between China and the Netherlands, bilateral relations have achieved significant development and been elevated to an open and pragmatic comprehensive partnership. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have supported each other in pulling through the difficulties together, seeing the growth of trade and investment against the headwinds and the steady progress in connectivity cooperation. At present, to cope with a once-in-a-century pandemic and the challenge of major changes unseen in a century, it is all the more necessary for China and the Netherlands, and China and Europe to respect and communicate with each other and develop an objective and rational mutual understanding. The publishing of the new edition of the Modern Dutch-Chinese Dictionary will open the door of mutual understanding for the two peoples. China hopes that both sides will further deepen exchanges and cooperation in the post-pandemic era and that China and Europe could treasure its own distinct heritages first and then promote shared prosperity. He wishes the Netherlands great success at Beijing Winter Olympics.

Ambassador of the Netherlands to China Wim Geerts said in his speech, the Netherlands-China relations have a long history and have yielded fruitful results in practical cooperation, benefiting both sides a lot. Against the current complex international situation, the Netherlands and China should step up exchanges and cooperation. The new edition of the Modern Dutch-Chinese Dictionary provides an effective tool for the two peoples to explore each other's culture. He hopes that both sides will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, such as economy, trade, culture, education and the Winter Olympics, for greater development of the Netherlands-China relations.
