On October 22, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Member of the Swiss Federal Council and Switzerland's Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis co-chaired the second round of China-Switzerland Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue in Berne.

Wang Yi said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, the two countries have always upheld the spirit of equal treatment, mutual respect and win-win cooperation and established the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership, which has become a model of friendly exchanges between countries of different social systems, histories, cultures and sizes. Under the new circumstances, the two sides should sum up and cherish the experience in the development of bilateral relations, respect each other and accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns, and maintain the steady and sound development of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi expressed, China and Switzerland should plan a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and consolidate the popular support of the two countries. The two sides should stay committed to mutual benefit and win-win cooperation and deepen cooperation in investment, science and technology, finance and other areas. The two sides should combine Switzerland's innovative ideas, advanced technology and management experience with China's rich human resources, vast market and complete manufacturing capacity to realize the "1+1 >2" effect.

Wang Yi noted, China and Switzerland should jointly champion multilateralism, uphold free trade, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, stick to expanding market openness to each other and create a fair and open business environment for companies of both sides to invest and start business in each other's countries.

Ignazio Cassis said, Switzerland attaches great importance to the Belt and Road Initiative and is ready to continue to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side, forge ahead and become a high-quality partner in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. China is a responsible major country and the Swiss side is willing to work with the Chinese side to jointly uphold the multilateral international order with the United Nations at its core and push for new progress in the innovative strategic partnership between the two countries.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern.
