On September 14, 2020, President Xi Jinping and President Simonetta Sommaruga of the Swiss Confederation exchanged congratulatory messages on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Switzerland diplomatic relations.

In his congratulatory message, Xi Jinping noted, Switzerland is one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations 70 years ago, the relations between our two countries have made great progress. In the joint fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides have helped each other, deepening the friendship between the two peoples. In her congratulatory message, Simonetta Sommaruga said, the exchanges between Switzerland and China enjoy a long history.
