On November 9, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang and Swiss Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Krystyna Marty Lang held the China-Switzerland vice foreign ministerial political negotiation through video call. They started with communication on COVID-19 status and cooperation in pandemic control, stating that more supports should be given to cooperation in vaccine and medicine R&D. Both sides exchanged in-depth opinions on bilateral relations and cooperation in the next phase.

Qin Gang said in the 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have fostered China-Switzerland cooperation featuring equality, innovation and mutual benefits. Eyeing on the long-term development of bilateral relations and the post-pandemic cooperation, both sides should make sound plans for high-level exchanges in the next phase, maintain communication and dialogues at all levels and highlight the political guidance for the development of bilateral relations. The two countries should cherish and maintain the great momentum of bilateral relations and secure sound political climate and public opinions for their cooperation. They should deepen the opening and cooperation in economic, trade and more pragmatic fields to help in world trade and economic recovery. Both sides should seize the opportunities brought by Beijing Winter Olympics to extend exchanges and cooperation in humanistic areas.

Krystyna Marty Lang highly commended the two countries' bilateral relationship and cooperation in pandemic control. She said Switzerland will tighten its dialogues with China in all fields and take pioneering and innovative steps to strengthen cooperation with China in finance, economy, trade, the Belt & Road and the Winter Olympics. Switzerland will play a pioneer role in China-EU cooperation.

Qin Gang stressed that Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet-related issues concern China's sovereignty, security and development interests. China is determined to safeguard its national core interests and firmly oppose foreign interference. Regarding human rights, Qin Gang pointed out that China attaches great importance to human rights and has made progresses no less than any other countries. We're firmly opposed to interference in other's internal affairs in the excuse of human rights and do not accept any preacher of human rights. Switzerland has its own human rights problems such as unlawfully imprisoning foreign citizens, infringing journalists' right to speak and unlawfully repatriating refugees. China hopes Switzerland could adhere to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect other countries' independent choices of human rights development paths, and do not make human rights a political issue or set double standards.
