On July 14, 2023, Vice President Han Zheng met in Beijing with Chairman of Standard Chartered Group of the UK José Viñals.

Han Zheng said that China and the UK are highly complementary in trade and enjoy broad prospects for economic and trade cooperation. China is committed to the path of reform and opening up, fostering a market-oriented, world-class business environment governed by a sound legal framework, and supporting the enterprises from the UK and other countries in achieving better development in China. The Chinese central government fully supports Hong Kong in maintaining its unique status and advantages in the long run, and fully supports the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in advancing its development as an international financial center  and maintaining long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong. China welcomes Standard Chartered Group and other international financial institutions to actively participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and make new contributions to consolidating Hong Kong's status as an international financial center.

José Viñals thanked the Chinese government for its strong support to the Standard Chartered Group all along, and said that the Group will continue its firm commitment to the Chinese market, actively participate in the Belt and Road cooperation and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and work for more achievements in the mutually beneficial cooperation between the UK and China.
