Wang Yi Meets with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly

On July 14, 2023 local time, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had brief talks with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly in Jakarta at the latter's request.

Cleverly once again congratulated China on successfully facilitating reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, appreciated China's key role on major international peace and security issues, and said that he looks forward to maintaining high-level exchanges and strategic communication with China to add positive factors to bilateral relations.

Wang Yi said that as permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and the UK shoulder the common responsibility of maintaining world peace and stability, and should show their responsibility as major countries and jointly tackle global challenges. Mutual respect for each other's core interests and non-interference in each other's internal affairs are inherent principles of China-UK friendship and cooperation. China is committed to developing stable and mutually beneficial relations with the UK.
