On the morning of September 10, 2023 local time, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

Noting that both China and the UK are major world economies and are closely intertwined economically, with increasingly close ties, Li Qiang said that both sides should strive to bring more benefits to each other and the world with stable and mutually beneficial China-UK relations. China is ready to work with the UK to adhere to mutual respect, treat each other as equals, view each other's development objectively, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and promote the steady and sustained development of China-UK relations.

Li Qiang pointed out that the two sides should stay committed to open cooperation, and safeguard and expand common interests. Noting that both China and the UK are advocates, practitioners and beneficiaries of free trade, Li Qiang said that the two countries should jointly oppose any attempt to politicize economic and trade issues and overstretch the concept of security, promote the building of an open world economy, uphold the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, and ensure the stable and smooth functioning of global industrial and supply chains. The two sides should properly handle differences, uphold the spirit of inclusiveness and mutual learning, and respect each other's core interests and major concerns. China welcomes the UK to continue to expand practical cooperation with China, and is ready to deepen cooperation with the country in such fields as trade, investment, green development, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and science and technology, so as to jointly support and promote global sustainable development.

Rishi Sunak said that the UK respects China's history and culture and values China's significant role in the international system. The UK is ready to hold constructive and candid dialogue with China, strengthen practical cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, and science and technology, properly handle differences, jointly tackle climate change and other global challenges, and build stable and mutually beneficial UK-China relations.
