On January 8, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended and addressed upon invitation the reception celebrating the 61st anniversary of the victory of Cuba's revolution held by the Cuban Embassy in China.

In his speech, Qin Gang congratulated Cuba on the 61st anniversary of the victory of its revolution and said, the Chinese side speaks highly of the achievements of Cuba's revolution and construction and highly praises Cuba's tenacious spirit in the long-term fight against unjust unilateral sanctions and embargo. Cuba has become a banner, a spirit and a force of opposing oppression and bullying in the world. Cuba is the first country in the western hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China and has always taken the lead in developing relations with China in Latin America and the Caribbean region. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba. At this new starting point in history, the Chinese side is willing to, together with the Cuban side, push our traditional friendship and friendly exchanges in various areas for new achievements to better benefit the two peoples. The Chinese side will, as always, firmly support the Cuban side's just cause of safeguarding national sovereignty and opposing external interference, and firmly support Cuba in exploring a development path that suits its national conditions.

Qin Gang also exchanged views with Cuban Ambassador to China Carlos Miguel Pereira on China-Cuba relations and other topics.
