President Xi Jinping Arrives San Jose for State Visit to Costa Rica

On June 2, 2013, President Xi Jinping arrived in San Jose, starting his state visit to Costa Rica.

At about 8: 10 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping's special plane arrived at San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport. Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan were warmly greeted by Costa Rican Foreign Minister Enrique Castillo.

Xi Jinping extended sincere greetings and best wishes to the Costa Rican people on behalf of the Chinese people. Xi Jinping said, Costa Rica is an important country in Central America. It is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and the two peoples as well as conducive to promoting world peace and development to develop China-Costa Rica friendly cooperative relations. I am looking forward to exchanging views with President Laura Chinchilla and other Costa Rican leaders on bilateral relations and other topics of mutual interest. I believe the visit will surely be able to realize the goal of deepening mutual trust, expanding cooperation, enhancing friendship and achieving mutual benefit and win-win results.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu and Yang Jiechi, along with all delegation members, arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Song Yanbin, Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica, as well greeted at the airport.

Xi Jinping arrived in San Jose from Port of Spain by special plane following the conclusion of his state visit to Trinidad and Tobago. Upon his departure from Port of Spain, President of Trinidad and Tobago Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona held a farewell ceremony at the airport. Xi Jinping mounted to the inspection platform and was saluted by the Guard Commander. The military band played the national anthems of China and Trinidad and Tobago. Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan then shook hands to bid farewell with President Carmona and Mrs. Carmona, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the Senate President, the House Speaker and the cabinet ministers.

Following his visit to Costa Rica, Xi Jinping will visit Mexico and hold the China-US presidential meeting in the US.
