President Xi Jinping Meets with Costa Rican Legislative Assembly President Luis Fernando Mendoza

On June 3 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Costa Rican Legislative Assembly President Luis Fernando Mendoza and representatives of political parties in San Jose.

Xi Jinping said that the Costa Rican people adhere to the development path suited to their own national conditions and have formed a development mode of being in harmony with the nature. China wishes Costa Rica continuously making new and greater achievements for its development.

Xi Jinping said, I held fruitful talks with President Laura Chinchilla, reaching important consensus on the future development of China-Costa Rica relations. China and Costa Rica, although with different national conditions, are both at a crucial stage of development and face new opportunities to develop the bilateral relationship. China will join hands with Costa Rica in comprehensively promoting cooperation in all fields so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Xi Jinping noted that before the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Costa Rica, China's National People's Congress and the Costa Rican Legislative Assembly had already carried out friendly exchanges. The rapid development of China-Costa Rica relationship is inseparable from the strong support and active participation by people from all walks of life of the two countries including Costa Rican parliament members. China has always attached great importance to friendly exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries, hoping that both sides will strengthen exchanges and cooperation and make greater contributions to promoting the build-up of democratic legal system of the two countries, enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and pushing for the development of China-Costa Rica relationship.

Mendoza said that Costa Rica and China are geographically far apart, but the two peoples have a long history of mutual exchanges. As early as in the 19th century, there were Chinese immigrants coming to Costa Rica. They got rooted at the place, living in harmony with local people and made contributions to economic and social development of Costa Rica. For the six years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, the two countries have made substantial achievements in their cooperation and exchanges. It demonstrates the political wisdom and strategic foresight of the two countries. President Xi Jinping's visit indicates China's willingness to promote the Costa Rica-China relationship, and will surely deepen the friendship between the two peoples and push the bilateral relationship for further development.

Representatives of Costa Rican political parties in their remarks spoke positively for the sound development of Costa Rica-China relations, saying that the political parties in Costa Rica firmly support to develop the relationship with China and are committed to enhancing exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side and learning from each other to achieve common development.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu and Yang Jiechi were present at the meeting.
